Built So You Never Have to Unlearn the Basics

Beginner pickleball lessons in San Diego should do one thing well: get you rallying with real confidence, fast, without teaching you habits you will have to unlearn later. That is the entire design behind Gautam Sethi's beginner coaching.

Gautam starts every new student the same way โ€” by watching how you naturally move and hit before changing anything, then building your first sessions around grip, scoring, positioning, and the dinking and serving mechanics that actually hold up once you start playing real games.

Choosing a Format

What Lessons Cost, and Why Format Matters

Private pickleball lessons typically run $50 to $150 an hour, and group lessons usually run $10 to $30 per player. A private lesson gives a beginner full individual correction time, often the fastest way to build the right habits from session one, while a group lesson is the more affordable, social starting point for players learning alongside a partner or friend.

Every beginner pickleball lesson in San Diego with Gautam is led personally, whichever format you pick. If you want the full picture first, here is a breakdown of every coaching format and what it costs, from private lessons through to multi-day camps.

Common Questions

Beginner FAQ

Do I need my own paddle to start?

Not at all. A paddle can be borrowed for your first session so you can try it before buying. Once you are ready, Gautam recommends a beginner paddle to fit your budget.

How fit do I need to be?

Pickleball is one of the most accessible racket sports for any fitness level. The court is smaller, rallies are lower-impact, and the session pace adjusts to your comfort level.

How many lessons before I can play with others?

Most students are ready for casual open play after two to three sessions, since the first session covers the rules and basic mechanics needed to join a friendly game.

Can I book as a couple or friend group?

Yes. Semi-private and group beginner sessions are popular and available. Learning with a partner means you start playing together right away.

Where do beginner lessons take place?

Lessons run across San Diego, including Spring Valley, Del Mar, La Mesa, La Jolla, Coronado, Mission Valley, and Chula Vista, matched to the most convenient location for you.
